Double Height Bed - our customer was keen to grow vegetables without too much kneeling and bending.

Mobility problems and growing your own in a raised vegetable bed

Because we use a really good thickness of timber in the construction of our beds (5” for the installed beds, 3” and 2" for the kit beds) it’s easy to have a pretty comfortable perch on the side of the bed whilst gardening, lessening the strain on your back (and do note that the sleepers we use in the installed beds are untreated, meaning no tar leakage on hot days).  In addition, the size of our beds enables the centres to be reached easily from either side – no pulled muscles whilst reaching.

We can also make our beds to different heights: for example a bed from 40 – 60cm high can easily be accessed by a person in a chair.  Our strong upright frames can also act as a good support to the gardener because they're so securely integrated into the bed itself.

Our beds can offer lower maintenance gardening with covers that are incredibly easy to slip on and off as required.  The drip feed irrigation lies on top of the soil and does the job perfectly - no heavy watering cans or unruly lengths of hosepipe  to control.

"Having some mobility problems I really like the fact that I can sit on the sleepers to do the gardening without too much bending..."  Penny G-J, Neatishead
